Today the rugged and beautiful Aran Islands are on the schedule! The tour will board a ferry to take you to the island; this is a very smooth ride for those that aren’t too keen about boats. You will be visiting the island of Inis Mor (Inishmore), the biggest of the islands.
You will take a tour of the island making a stop at Dun Aonghasa – this is a fort that was built on the top of the hill and dates back to 1500 BC. One side of the fort is made of a sheer cliff wall that is 300 feet above the Atlantic Ocean – this fort affords some spectacular views. The locals of Inis Mor (Inishmore) speak the native language of Irish or Gaelic. Inishmore also
has a blue flag beach named Kilmurvey, with it’s white sands and crystal blue water – very inviting.
Free evening in Galway
Westport, Ireland is your destination today, once a winner of the “overall Ireland’s tidiest town”. This is a quaint small town that is absolutely beautiful. Westport is situated just 5 miles from Croagh Patrick, the holiest mountain in Ireland which looks out over Clew Bay. This is the site of which St. Patrick made his pilgrimage, fasting for 40 days in 441AD. Many people climb the
mountain every year. There is a small church at the crest, it’s here that you may enjoy an absolute beautiful view of the countryside.
On our travels today we will visit the small town of Larhardane, home to the Titanic Memorial
village, you will also tour Nephin Whiskey Distillery and see a demonstration of sheep dog trials.
The tour will travel from Westport to Dublin today stopping at Clonmacnoise Monastery along the way. Clonmacnoise is situated along the Shannon river. Clonmacnoise is now many peaceful stone ruins, but was once the most renowned center of learning in Europe.
The tour will also visit the world’s oldest pub, Sean’s, dating back to 900 AD and has the official Guinness Book title annotating such. Explore this cool watering hole and see how they have blended yesteryear with the absolutely cool pub it is today.
Tonight the tour will dine together as a group.
Today you will depart Ireland for the United States. We hope you enjoyed your trip with Irish Group Travel, and had an experience that will last a lifetime.
